Melanie and Hunter’s July wedding at the MacLaren Art Centre felt easy in the best possible way. No rushing. No forcing moments. Just a day that unfolded naturally inside one of Barrie’s most beautiful art spaces.
The gallery light wrapped around everything — quiet moments, laughter, movement — giving the day a calm, grounded energy. With its rotating artwork, airy interiors, and downtown Barrie location, the MacLaren Art Centre is a perfect venue for couples looking for something non-traditional with the elevated style of the historic building. The gorgeous original brickwork out side makes for the perfect backdrop for outdoor shots while the massive windows in the Carnegie room bringing a bright and airy sophisticated vibe to the space which is just *chefs kiss* for photos. Melanie and Hunter’s wedding was a beautiful example of how art and architecture can add so much charm and beauty to your wedding day.
If you've seen some of my other work, you'll know I'm always on board with involving your pets in your wedding day whenever possible. They often are such a key part of a relationship and of course deserve some of the spotlight. And with a face like Bean's how could you NOT?! Bean was around while Mel was getting ready so I was able to grab a few documentary style snaps of her with the bride. Later, Melanie and Hunter chose to include Bean in a few of their couples portraits, which added such a meaningful and fun layer to their wedding story. Including a furry family member always makes those moments feel even more authentic — full of laughter, connection, and real emotion.
One of the most memorable parts of the day was Melanie’s dress change. Her ceremony gown felt elegant and refined, perfectly suited to the gallery’s classic atmosphere. Later, she changed into a second dress that brought a lighter, more playful energy to the evening — perfect for celebrating, mingling, and moving freely to party on the dance floor. The change added variety to their photos and allowed Mel to truly let loose and enjoy herself with her guests.
