S’mores, Moose Floaties & Danny DeVito: The Ultimate Non-Traditional Wedding

Okay, where do I even start with Candice and Myles?! These two are adventurous in the truest sense—they’re the kind of couple who feels most at home under the trees, with a campfire crackling nearby and maybe a s’more (or three) in hand. So naturally, their wedding wasn’t your typical ballroom affair. Nope—they said “I do” at their actual campsite in Black River Wilderness Park, and it was every bit as magical and laid-back as it sounds.

As a Muskoka wedding photographer who lives for documenting non-traditional weddings like this, I was in absolute heaven. From the second I arrived, it felt more like a weekend adventure than a wedding—and honestly, that’s my kind od wedding!

Candice got ready in a cozy yurt with her mom and grandma by her side. There was so much love (and happy chaos) in that little space—laughing, buzzing energy, the whole deal. Her first look with her dad was such a happy and heartfelt moment. And when Myles surprised his mom with a gift it really brought out the best reactions from the parents. So many quiet, beautiful moments tucked into the day—it’s exactly why I love telling love stories like this through a candid and documentary approach.

The ceremony? Pure perfection. Just their closest humans, the trees swaying gently overhead, and these two 'happy campers' saying heartfelt vows surrounded by nature. No fuss, just love. And then—because they’re absolute legends—they hopped on giant moose and loon floaties and floated away down the river - Best wedding exit EVER!

Later, they skipped the traditional cake for fireside s’mores (which, honestly, 10/10 would recommend), and in a truly iconic twist, they brought out a life-size Danny DeVito cutout—because yes, they’re huge “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” fans and yes, it was amazing. Danny watched over the party like the chaotic good wedding guest he was born to be.

This whole day was such a breath of fresh, pine-scented air. It was untraditional, unfiltered, and so them. A perfect mix of sentiment and silliness. These are the kinds of weddings I live for—wild-at-heart, full of personality, and unapologetically different. If you’re an adventurous couple dreaming of a celebration that breaks all the rules and embraces the outdoors, this is your sign that it’s so possible. 🛶💛
